Text Messaging (SMS) Program & Opt-In

aVillage, operated by Lukshi, LLC

aVillage helps churches and community groups coordinate practical care for foster, adoptive, and kinship families. Members may opt in to receive text messages such as urgent care-need alerts and reminders for meals, rides, and volunteer commitments they signed up for. This page documents exactly how members consent to those messages.

How members opt in

Opt-in happens inside the aVillage app — on the web at joinavillage.com and in the iOS and Android apps. There are two opt-in paths, and both use the same active, unchecked-by-default consent:

  1. During onboarding. After a member joins their community, the app shows a "How can we reach you?" step (shown below). The member enters their mobile number and taps an unchecked checkbox to agree to the consent language before continuing. The step is optional and can be skipped.
  2. In Settings. A member can turn texts on or off anytime under Settings → "Text me reminders & urgent needs." The control is off unless the member turns it on, and saving records their consent.

Only members who take this active step receive texts. Consent to receive texts is never a condition of using aVillage or of donating, and we do not sell or share mobile numbers.

Consent language

By opting in you agree to receive text messages from your community (care-need alerts and reminders). Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help.

Message types and frequency

Care-need alerts (including urgent placement needs), reminders for commitments a member signed up for (meals, rides, volunteering), and related account notifications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

Opting out and help

Members can opt out at any time by replying STOP (also STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT), or reply HELP for help; they can also turn texts off in the app under Settings. We do not sell or share mobile numbers, and mobile opt-in data and consent are not shared with third parties.
